Located in North Yorkshire, there is lots to see and do around Castleton. Whether it’s exploring the village and North York Moors on foot, or travelling slightly further afield by car or public transport.
Danby Lodge National Park Centre, The Heritage North York Moors Railway, watersports at Scaling Dam Reservoir and Rydale Folk Museum at Hutton-le-Hole offer great days out for all the family. Helmsley, Pickering, Thornton-le-Dale, Stokesley and Northallerton are delightful nearby market towns, offering plenty of eateries and shops.
The North York Moors is also great location for cycling, with 150 miles to explore of the ‘Moor to Sea Cycle Network’ connecting Scarborough, Whitby, Dalby Forest, Pickering and Great Ayton.
The Esk Valley Walk
The Esk Valley Walk is a 37 mile route across the North York Moors, following the River Esk from Castleton to Whitby (the river's journey to the North Sea). Featuring a variety of countryside, moorland and riverside, the walk is designed for a short walking holiday. https://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/things-to-do/walking/other-long-distance-walks

A section of The Esk Valley Walk, Castleton to Lealholm is a slightly shorter walk, of 7 1/2 miles. It begins in the village of Castleton and ends in Lealholm. Passing through The Moors National Park Centre (near Danby), the walk provides stunning views from Danby Beacon
