About The Cottages
Park Nook Cottages is based in Castleton, close to the charming Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby. Surrounded by the countryside and moorland, our three stone barn conversions have been carefully renovated into delightful holiday cottages, with The Esk Valley Walk just steps away.
Accommodating either two or four guests, our cottages boast open plan kitchen/living spaces - each housing a cosy log burner. All three properties are South--facing and offer outdoor seating, with The Granary or Forge Barn featuring a hot tub.
Once a key aspect of life on a working farm, the cottages have each been named after their working roles: Parlour Cottage, The Granary and Forge Barn.
Whether you are seeking a restful retreat or a family-friendly staycation (with room for your dog in one of the cottages), we look forward to welcoming you.

History
Park Nook Farm dates back to the 1700s and was built to support local quarrying operations. Early activity focused on extracting Winstone (sandstone) for constructing buildings. This progressed during the railway age to quarrying Ganister, a high-silica sandstone used in the production of refractory bricks and casting sand for the iron industry.
Quarrying took place across the moorland to the north of the farm, with the stone processed at a crushing plant to the south near where Abbeyfield’s care home now stands.
Following the decline of quarrying in the early 20th century, the site became a working farm for livestock. After a period of disrepair, the buildings have been carefully restored and are now the characterful cottages seen today.
